Many common headaches don't start in the head. Tension-type headaches — the most frequent kind — and neck-related (cervicogenic) headaches are closely tied to the muscles of the neck, shoulders, and jaw. At W11 Therapy in South Granville, CCHPBC-licensed RMTs assess where your headaches are driven from and treat the contributing muscles. For tension-type headaches, research suggests massage may help reduce their frequency and intensity. Massage therapy does not treat migraine as a condition, though some people find easing surrounding neck tension a useful complement to physician-led migraine care.
A sudden, severe "worst ever" headache, headache with fever and stiff neck, headache after a head injury, or one with vision changes, weakness, or confusion needs prompt medical care — not massage. A new or changing headache pattern also deserves a physician's assessment first. Our RMTs screen for these signs before treating.
Headache-focused sessions are standard massage therapy by CCHPBC-licensed RMTs, eligible under most BC extended health plans. We direct bill Sun Life, Manulife, Pacific Blue Cross, Green Shield, Canada Life and ICBC when your plan allows it.
